Reel Review: How Culpa Tuya Became A Hit Guilty Pleasure Film

Prime Video’s hit Spanish romance Culpa Mia is back and better than ever in the dramatic sequel Culpa Tuya. There is so much to talk about, so let's break it down!

Originally based on the bestselling novel by Mercedes Ron, the story of Nick and Noah quickly became a phenomenon with fans all around the world, myself included. The second film in the Culpables series continues Nick and Noah’s rocky relationship filled with ups and downs, and tons of drama! Of course, the films wouldn’t be anything without the passionate on-screen chemistry of Nicole Wallace and Gabriel Guevara.

The sequel also introduces some new characters to Nick and Noah’s story; each posing a threat to their relationship.

Noah has officially graduated high school and moves into her own apartment at her university. It is here where she meets her new roommate, Briar, played by Álex Béjar. Briar is messy and two-faced; given her messy past with Nick, which he hides from Noah until the end. Her character complicates things even further when we find out she’s also been working with Nick’s mother all along.

We also learn more about Nick in the sequel as he navigates his relationship (or lack thereof) with his mother, played by Goya Toledo. Abandoning him as a child, Nick’s mother comes back for one thing only: money. Noah makes the mistake of trusting his mother and letting her into their lives; which doesn’t end well for the family, as secrets are revealed in a dramatic ending sequence.

These characters are obsessed with revenge and will do just about anything to get it, especially breaking apart Nick and Noah’s relationship. Both Béjar and Toledo did a really strong job at bringing these trouble-making characters to life.

By the end of the film, Nick and Noah are left at a stand-still. They’ve both made some pretty impactful mistakes and have lots of making up to do. It also appears that Briar and Nick’s mother have even more drama to stir up in the third film. The film did a great job remaining true to the book and brought some of my favorite scenes to life, and that racing scene was just unmatched! There is nothing more powerful than when Nick and Noah are sitting behind the wheel!

This series has truly become an addictive guilty pleasure and it's safe to say left many lovers of romance completely addicted. I cannot wait to see how Nick and Noah’s story wraps up in the third installment, but at least for now we have the books!

Culpa Tuya is available to watch on Prime Video now!
