Reel Review: John Cena’s What Drives You Digs Deeper into the Lives of Celebrity Guest Stars

Start your engine because What Drives You is officially out on The Roku Channel! John Cena is the host of this all new celebrity interview show where he dives deeper into the lives of some of the biggest names in Hollywood, and takes a ride in their favorite cars.

I automatically found the concept for this show really interesting. John Cena is an amazing host for this type of show. While he is the perfect balance of funny and charismatic, he is also able to have real authentic conversations and dig deeper. While Cena made the environment feel safe, what especially surprised me were the guest stars.

The first episode features big name influencer, Logan Paul. While Paul has gained attraction all over social media in the past, this episode gives us a glance at the man behind the screen. As Paul drives Cena in his Ford Bronco, the two talk about his new-found sense of purpose; becoming both a father and a fiancee. Paul talks about his transition from influencer to family man and all the challenges that come with it. From their conversation, we get to see the new and rebranded Logan Paul.

The second episode of What Drives You features country star and artist Jelly Roll. Jelly Roll drives Cena all around his Nashville town in his RAM 1500 Laramie. In an inspirational conversation, Jelly Roll talks about turning his life around with his wife Bunnie XO. Cena is at a loss for words when Jelly Roll reminisces on his childhood, loss of his father, life in prison, and the mistakes he regrets making in his past.

In the third episode, Cena is joined by Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker. Hitting the streets of LA, Barker takes Cena on a journey in his Mercedes Benz G-Wagon. Barker reminisces on his childhood and the loss of his mom. He also talks about his early days as a struggling drummer, relationship with Kourtney Kardashian, and getting his big break with Blink-182. There is even a fun feature at the end of this episode when Cena and Barker create a freestyle rap in his studio (and yes, it will get stuck in your head)!

The last episode of the season is an iconic reunion between Cena and his former WWE rival, The Miz. Showing off his Tesla Model X, the two reunite to talk about wrestling, Mizanin’s inspirational father, and how he built his career from the ground up.

A clever play on words, What Drives You goes beyond the flashy expensive cars it features. It’s about the people behind the fame and fortune. Having an interview-based show set in a vehicle rather than a studio made the conversations feel more intimate. It also allowed us to see that behind these big names, is an ordinary person going through the highs and lows of life.

What Drives You is available to watch on The Roku Channel now!
