Reel Review: Grosse Pointe Garden Society Serves Murder Among Flowers
What happens when four members of a garden society try to cover up a murder? It turns into a complicated game of ‘who done it!’ The series premiere of NBC’s newest drama Grosse Pointe Garden Society released this week and the show does not disappoint for lovers of mystery and romance!
The first episode begins with Alice, a struggling teacher, in search of her missing dog. As the mystery unfolds, Alice discovers her dog was murdered. Now, she seeks revenge on the potential suspect of the crime; one of her troublemaking students. AnnaSophia Robb stars as Alice, and also serves as the narrator to tell this suspensefully soapy drama!
Another member of the garden society is Brett. After a marriage gone wrong, he is left a single dad struggling with joint custody between his narcissistic ex-wife and her new beau. Ben Rappaport adds all the humor and a sarcastic hook that this show needs! We also begin to see an epic friendship between his character Brett, and Alice. It’s clear within the first episode that these two will become an iconic duo!
Adding to the group is Catherine and Birdie. An unlikely friendship is formed between the two when they discover their man has been two-timing them… with each other. Catherine and Birdie both scream power but they also have their own secrets, and a huge craving for revenge. Aja Naomi King and Melissa Fumero serve as our girl bosses of the show and have that fiery personality that makes us root for them!
The first episode ties our four main characters together with one big mystery and we are left wondering who was murdered! AnnaSophia Robb, Ben Rappaport, Aja Naomi King, and Melissa Fumer have the potential to be an ultimate squad once more of their characters and their secrets are revealed. Grosse Pointe Garden Society manages to combine the cheesy-flowery romance with suspenseful dark humor quite well, and it’s sure to become a new guilty pleasure series for you to binge!
